DEFINE FEMININE

The modern women does not fit into one category, she is free to be who she wants and be defined by many, not one. ‘Define Feminine’ conceptualises the idea of mixing typically ‘masculine’ silhouettes of the broad shoulders extenuated by suited shoulder pads, boxy cuts of tailored blazers, alongside soft ‘feminine’ draping techniques that flow with movement. Women don’t need to choose to portray themselves one way or another, why can’t they be both? Developed from the illustrations of R. Anning Bell in Shakespeare’s Heroines published in 1901. The book characterises Shakespeares female roles into four categories, when in reality these characters are much more complex to be so simply labeled.
